Description
Southbrook Lodge is a lodge associated with Southbrook, likely built in the early 19th century based on its style, although its cavity walls suggest it may be from the late 19th century, according to the owner. The building is colourwashed and plastered, featuring a thatched roof that is hipped at both ends, with a stack on the right end and a front lateral stack. The design is in the Gothick style.
The lodge has a single-depth layout that is two rooms wide, with a rounded left end and an entrance on the south side leading into a passage. There is a 20th-century single-storey addition at the rear. The exterior is single-storey with an asymmetrical front that has two windows. To the left of centre, there is a rustic thatched porch with an arched front door that has flush panels. To the right of the porch are two arched Gothick windows featuring Gothick glazing bars and square-headed hood-moulds. At the rounded left end, there are two similar windows.
Inside, there is a late 19th-century tiled chimney-piece associated with the front lateral stack. The lodge has group value with Southbrook and the Southbrook gate-piers.
