Description
This building is a barn dating from the 17th century, located about 20 metres northwest of Pittaford Farmhouse in Slapton. It is constructed from local slate rubble and features a corrugated iron sheet roof that is hipped at the right (east) end and gabled at the west end. The barn has a large central threshing floor, with outshuts on the front and a later extension at the higher west end, which is said to have been an engine house. The original barn may have included a loft floor at the west end, accessible from a higher ground level.
On the exterior, the south front facing the yard has low outshuts, and to the right of centre is a cart entrance with its original wooden shouldered frame, featuring a post at the centre and double doors. There is a later outshut to the left of the front. The rear elevation facing the road has a smaller doorway to the left of centre with a timber lintel, and loft doorways to both the left and right.
Inside, the walls are plastered, and the roof is a 20th-century softwood structure.
