Description
The Cottage is a detached house, likely dating to the 17th or early 18th century, situated in the village centre of Loddiswell. It is constructed of limewashed rubble and rendered cob, with a thatched roof. The building follows a cross-passage plan, with a heated room on each side and a stack positioned at the back left. The house is set into a ground slope at the rear.
It is two storeys high, with a three-window front above a two-window front. Most windows are two-light casements with horizontal bars; the window to the right of the front door on the ground floor is set into deep reveals. The doorway is off-centre to the right and has a 20th-century door. Gable stacks are external, with a two-light casement on each level to the right of the stack. The left return is plain, while the rear features a rounded corner with a staircase. A flat-roofed extension at the rear is not considered to be of particular interest.
The interior has been modified but retains a spiral stair, two bread ovens, and original roof principals. This building is recognised for its group value.
