Description
The Old School House is a house located in the centre of Loddiswell village. It has origins that likely date back to the 17th century, but it has been mainly altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of limewashed or rendered rubble and features an asbestos-cement slate roof that is hipped on the right and gabled on the left. It is two storeys high, with the ground floor displaying three-light and two-light casement windows, while the first floor has four two-light casements, all of which include glazing bars. To the right, there is a 20th-century door with a glazed porch that has a hipped roof. The left gable is plain and has a large chimney stack, along with a low-set six-pane window on the left side. At the back, there is a large chimney stack and a stair turret. The eaves line has been raised at some point. Inside, there is one bressumer fire, but the interior has been largely restructured in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Old School House is significant as part of a group with Corner Cottage and the Congregational Church.
