Description
This building is a cottage or a pair of cottages, with one half used as a store. It likely dates from the 17th century or early 18th century, with later alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is made of painted slate rubble and features a thatched roof, which has a hipped end on the right and a gabled end on the left that abuts the rear of a chapel. The rear pitch of the roof is covered in corrugated asbestos.
There is a central axial stack with a tapered rendered shaft, slate weathering, and louvred yellow clay pots. The original layout is uncertain but likely consists of two or three rooms with the central stack. The lower unheated room on the right has a large vehicular doorway at the front, while the higher room on the left features a projecting two-storey bay and a 20th-century porch at the right angle, which leads to a later inserted doorway.
The building is two storeys high with an asymmetrical south front. The front includes late 19th-century two and three-light casements with glazing bars. At the left end of the front, there is a two-storey projecting bay with a 20th-century concrete open porch at its right angle and a 20th-century glazed door above that leads to a balcony with a 20th-century wooden balustrade. A late 19th-century glazed and panelled door is located outside the porch. To the right of the front, there is a large vehicular entrance with a concrete lintel and two small blocked windows nearby. The rear elevation is not accessible, but it appears there are no additional structures.
Inside, only the lower right-hand end was observed; it is open to the roof, which seems to have been renewed, although the roof structure itself is likely original.
