Description

Grimpstonleigh House is a farmhouse dating to 1830. Constructed of rubble, with some printed elements, and featuring slate hanging to the front, it has a slate roof. The house is symmetrical and gabled, with a central stair plan. It has two storeys and three windows, with three-light glazing-bar casements. A two-light window sits above the central 19th-century panelled and part-glazed front door, which is sheltered by a flat hood supported by brackets. Gable stacks are present. The front fenestration is offset to the left, with a stretch of wall extending to the right. The left return is slate-hung, while the right return includes a lean-to over a large door, and features a date plaque on the gable. The rear of the house has two- and three-light horizontal bar casements. The interior is not accessible. A rubble garden wall is attached to the front of the house, returning across the front to a central cast-iron gate with spear-head rails. It is a very isolated and largely unchanged traditional early 19th-century building.
