Description
Nos 20 and 22 Fore Street is a building that may date from the 17th century or earlier, though it has been altered over time, particularly with an earlier 19th-century front. This small artisan's house stands in contrast to the larger post-medieval merchant houses found in Totnes. The building is currently divided into two separate occupations and consists of two storeys, with one window on each floor. The exterior is finished in stucco, featuring modern half-timbering and a Welsh slate roof. The first floor has flush-framed sash windows with glazing bars. The earlier 19th-century shopfronts include No 20, which has a segmental-bowed front, with pilasters that support an entablature; the shop windows are adorned with columnette mullions.
