Description

This is a house, likely built in the mid to late 18th century, and partly used as tearooms. It is constructed of plastered stone rubble, with plastered brick chimney shafts and a slate roof. The plan features a single room width and two rooms in depth, with a staircase situated between them.

The exterior presents a regular, two-window front, lightly marked to resemble ashlar. A good quality 18th-century doorway is a prominent feature, with a panelled timber surround and an open-pediment hood supported by shaped timber brackets and a dentil cornice. A fielded eight-panel door is set beneath a fanlight with a radial pattern of glazing bars. A curving bay window has been added to the left, while the original windows above consist of 12-pane sashes to the first floor and 3/6-pane sashes to the second floor. A moulded timber eaves cornice runs along the hipped roof, which is punctuated by 20th-century dormer windows containing 4/8-pane and 3/6-pane sashes.

The ground floor has been modernised, with the only original feature being the staircase, which has a Chinese Chippendale balustrade.
