Description
No. 2 South Street is a house from the late 17th century, with its front rebuilt in the late 19th century. The building has two storeys and features a three-window front, along with an adjoining warehouse bay on the west side. It has a Welsh slate roof with red brick stacks and a rendered front. The windows are recessed, with segmental arches, and there is a segmental-arched doorway that includes a fanlight and a panelled door. On the east side, there is a carriage entrance with a segmental-arched gateway, an impost string, and a simplified hoodmould, leading to boarded double doors with a wicket.
The rear range is also two storeys high with one window, featuring a Welsh slate roof with a gabled front and is limewashed. The construction includes Devonian limestone random rubble with a slate-hung first floor and gable. There is a red brick stack and a limestone casement window on the first floor. The former ground floor window, which had mullions and stay bars, has been altered. An original oak framed doorway with ovolo mouldings leads to a boarded door with wrought iron hinges. An outside stone staircase provides access to the first floor doorway. This listing includes the 17th-century range.
