Description

Globe House is a house and adjoining outbuilding that has been converted into a garage, dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed of whitewashed stone rubble and features an asbestos slate roof with a gabled end. The rendered projecting gable end stacks have heightened shafts, with the right-hand stack now serving as an axial stack within the right-hand extension.

The building has a two-room plan, with a central entrance that likely led into a cross-passage originally. The larger left room was probably the kitchen, while the right room served as the parlour, both heated by gable end fireplaces. A later 18th or 19th-century outshut at the rear contains small unheated service rooms. An outbuilding, possibly stables, was added at the right end and now houses a garage with rooms in the loft above.

The exterior is two storeys high with a three plus three window range. The left three windows belong to the original house and there is a doorway to the right of centre, which has a late 20th-century porch. The garage doors are located in the centre of the right-hand addition and feature a large timber lintel. All windows are 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars.

Inside, the roof of the original house has slightly cambered collars lapped and pegged to the face of the principal rafters, although the common rafters have been replaced. The partition between the former passage and the parlour on the right has been removed, and the fireplaces have been altered. The stairs have been relocated to the rear outshut.
