Description
This building is a boathouse or icehouse, likely dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and has a single cell with a cruciform-like plan, set into a bank that overlooks fish ponds in Quarryhead Wood. The front wall features slate rubble and has a large round arch opening, although the head of the outer arch has collapsed. Inside, there is a barrel-vaulted roof, and at the back, the vaulted recess is narrower, forming a cruciform-like plan. The floor is made of slate bedrock. While it may have served as an icehouse, the large opening at the front suggests it was also used as a boathouse, as indicated on the 1906 Ordnance Survey map.
