Description
This chest tomb, located about 10 metres north-northwest of the north porch of the Church of St James in Slapton, dates from around 1832. It is made of dressed slate and features a chamfered cornice with an unmoulded slate lid. The lid is inscribed in upper case with serifs, commemorating Susanna Hodge and Jonathan Hodge, who died in 1832. At the east end of the chest, there is a limestone gravestone with a shaped head, which has a badly weathered inscription dedicated to one or more members of the Hodge family.
