Description

Farmhouse. Dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, it is constructed of rubble with a scantle slate roof hung over the ground storey at the front. The left-hand side of the front elevation has decoratively cut slates forming patterns, while the right-hand side has larger slates. The roofs are gabled to the left and right. The farmhouse has two storeys, attics, and cellars, and originally had a four-window range. It now features 19th-century two- and four-light casement windows with glazing bars, all with dripmoulds and moulded wooden lintels. There is an arched cellar doorway on the north side, with a large, chamfered wooden frame and plank door. This doorway is flanked by blocked round-headed openings. A crosswing to the south extends to the south-east and is now a separate house, known as Pridhamsleigh Farmhouse. The south elevation of the crosswing has three windows, with a slate-hung first floor and one three-light moulded wooden first-floor window with leaded panes. A truncated external chimney stack is located on the north side of the south wing. An outbuilding adjoining the east side forms the third side of a small yard and is of stone rubble with a corrugated iron roof. This outbuilding has two storeys and features ovolo-moulded mullion wooden windows, an ovolo-moulded wooden bressummer with carved stops over a blocked window, and pigeon holes below the eaves and in the north gable end. Internally, Pridhamsleigh Manor includes a wooden ovolo-moulded fireplace bressummer, a small ground floor room with bolection panelling, a cornice, a niche with fluted pilasters, a plaster shelf, and a marble chimneypiece. Another room has a large granite fireplace with hollow chamfer. The staircase retains remains of a moulded balustrade. Stone vaulted cellars are located under the north end.
