Description
Middle Well is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, rebuilt in the late 18th century from an earlier structure. It features two stone tablets on the south chimney stack that read "IMB 1688" and "Rebuilt for Mr J. Knight 1790". The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and has a slate hipped roof. It stands three storeys high and has three bays. The windows are sash with glazing bars, and the outer sashes are tripartite, set beneath segmental brick arches. The central entrance has a restored panelled door framed by a moulded architrave and topped with a flat hood supported by brackets. A large chimney stack on the south side has been heightened with red brick. At the rear (west) is a wing with a half-hipped slate roof and an external chimney stack that has an oven at its base. There is also a single storey extension at the north end. Inside, there is a staircase from the late 18th or early 19th century, and the drawing room features a round-head niche with a shell hood and moulded cornice.
