Description

Cheldon Barton is a farmhouse, likely dating from the 18th century and remodelled in the early to mid-19th century. It is now used as holiday accommodation. The house is constructed of unrendered stone rubble with a hipped slate roof. Large stone rubble stacks, heightened with brick, are located at each end, and there is a particularly substantial stack with pronounced battering at the end of the rear service wing. The plan comprises a principal room on each side of a central stairhall, with a two-storey kitchen wing to the rear left, forming an L-shaped plan. A service outshut, likely added in the 19th century, is situated in the angle to the rear of the right-hand room.

The exterior has two storeys and a symmetrical three-window front. The windows are of 20th-century design but in a 19th-century style, consisting of a three-light casement flanked by two-light casements, all with six panes per light. The upper floor windows have timber lintels, while the ground floor windows have slightly cambered stone lintels. A gabled stone rubble porch with a segmental pointed arched doorway is present. The inner door is four-panelled with a segmental pointed overlight. The interior was not inspected.
