Description
Stone Mill Bridge is a road bridge over the Little Dart River, likely built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from roughly snecked mudstone with granite dressings. The bridge features two uneven spans: a large segmental arch on the southwest side (Chawleigh) and a narrower round-headed arch on the northeast side. Both arches have plain vaults with outer rings made of roughly-finished voussoirs. The main pier is rectangular in shape, projecting slightly from the bridge and tapering back into the wall as it rises to a plain granite string course at road level. Small projecting cutwaters extend to about the level of the arch springing. The bridge has a rubble parapet with granite coping that has weathered slightly on both sides, featuring simple terminals.
