Description

Nos. 22 and 23, East Street, are a pair of building dating from 1838. They were likely built on the site of a 17th-century gaol and served as accommodation for the gaoler and superintendent of police. The building is two storeys high, with rendered elevations and rusticated quoins. It has a hipped slate roof with axial chimney stacks. Three sash windows with original glazing bars remain. The central doorcase features a cornice, pilasters, a rectangular fanlight, panelled reveals, and a six-panelled door.
