Description
This is a terrace of houses with shops located at 8-11 Holland Walk in Barnstable. The buildings date from the 17th century and were remodeled in the early 19th century and again in the 1980s. They feature solid roughcast fronts and slated roofs, standing two storeys high with a six-window range. The shop fronts were updated in the late 20th century, while some upper-storey windows have box-framed, six-paned sashes with horns. Although the interiors were not inspected, a previous description from 1985 notes that the terrace retains four trusses from the 17th-century roof, complete with threaded purlins and a ridge piece, as well as two purlins per roof slope and some rafters. This terrace is included in the listing mainly for its group value, although it also has rarity value as a side street cottage development from an unusually early date.
