Description
Four electric street lamp posts are located outside numbers 7 and 8, The Inn on The Strand, Jenny Wren's Tea Rooms, and Queen Anne's Walk in Barnstaple. These lamp posts date from the early 20th century and were made by James Allan and Son in Glasgow. They are crafted from ornate cast iron and feature acanthus leaf decoration on the balusters above the pedestals. Each lamp post has a tall, slender tapered shaft with ladder bars and is topped with finials and ornate brackets that hold the lanterns. An inscription on the base of the pedestal is partly legible, reading: 'James Allan and ...and Son, Elnbank Foundry, Glasgow'. These lamp standards have group value with other listed buildings in The Strand.
