Description

This former farmhouse, now used for farm storage, dates from the 17th century but may have earlier fabric hidden within. It has undergone some alterations and additions in the 20th century. The building features a corrugated iron roof with gable ends and has both a front lateral hall stack and a rear lateral stack, although the shafts of these stacks have been removed.

The ground floor plan remains largely unaltered, consisting of a lower end to the left and a hall to the right of a through-passage. However, the roof structure was replaced in the 20th century, and at the time of the survey in April 1986, the building was actively used for hay and animal storage, making it difficult to fully ascertain its original plan and development.

The exterior has a three-window range, with a two-light timber ovolo mullion window to the left of the hall stack. A notable feature is the fine 17th-century front through-passage doorway, which is straight-headed and has an ovolo and sunk chamfered moulded surround, along with the original studded and panelled plank door.

Inside, the ground floor appears largely intact, showcasing a four-centred arched doorway with a chamfered surround at the lower end, and an intact fireplace in the same area. There is also a section of a plank and muntin screen, five planks wide, with chamfered muntins on the hall side of the through-passage. Additionally, a double ovolo-moulded ceiling beam can be found in the hall.
