Description
This is a detached bakehouse and coal store, dating from the mid-19th century, located approximately 2 meters north of Hall House in Bishops Tawton. The building is constructed from roughly coursed stone rubble and features a hipped slate roof. At the rear, there is a massive lateral stack with offsets and a tapered cap. The structure is rectangular in plan and built into a bank, with a basement that serves as a coalshed.
The bakehouse includes a 2-light window on the left and two 3-light casements, each with 3 panes per light, to the right of a 4-plank door. Inside, there is a flagstone floor and a large cambered arched fireplace, with segmental arched ovens on either side. A partition with larder fittings is located at the left end. The coal stores are connected to the rear of the main range by a slated covered walkway.
