Description
Smugglers Cottage is a house dating to the 17th century, although a carved date of 1627 above the porch is likely unreliable. It is constructed of roughly coursed rubble with a slate roof covered with red crested ridge tiles. Originally built with a 2-unit plan, the house was considerably enlarged during the 20th century and now has a 2-window front. The upper windows are located in gabled dormers that project above the eaves, and feature 20th-century top-opening casements. An open porch with a 20th-century bow window stands to the right. The right-hand return side contains a large external chimney stack with two diagonally-set stone shafts. Rear extensions include a flat-roofed section covered with both slate and shingles. The building is included on the list for its group value.
