Description
The former forge, located about 70 metres west of Ball Ham Farmhouse, is likely a late 19th-century remodelling of an earlier forge. Constructed from stone rubble, the front has been whitened, and it features a gabled slate roof with a rear right stack that has a 19th-century brick shaft. The right end wall shows cob, indicating the presence of an earlier structure. The forge has a rectangular plan and is situated at the Cott Cross crossroads near Ash Mill. The front elevation includes large double doors on the left with a timber lintel and a smaller doorway on the right, also with a timber lintel. The left side has one smaller and one larger window, both with red brick dressings. The interior was not inspected. The forge has group value with Ball Ham, which was formerly the blacksmith's house.
