Description

West Trayne is a house dating from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of whitewashed cob on stone rubble footings and has an asbestos slate roof, which was formerly thatched. The roof is hipped at the right end and gabled at the left end, featuring a left end stack and an axial stack with a large shaft.

The house is located in the village and has a single depth range, being three rooms wide with the entrance positioned to the right of center, facing the stair. There is a large rear right wing, which may have been a converted agricultural building, but this part is not included in the listing.

The exterior of the house is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with two windows. A 20th-century front door is located to the right of center. There is a large blocked opening to the left, indicating that this part of the house may have had semi-agricultural use in the past. The first floor features two late 19th-century or 20th-century four-pane sash windows, along with one similar sash window to the left of the front door and a two-light 20th-century casement window to the right of the front door.

The interior has only been partially inspected, but the center room includes a chamfered crossbeam and an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel. The house holds group value in the village center.
