Description
Higher Bullen is a cottage dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, constructed of whitewashed rendered rubble and cob. It features a thatched roof with a reed-matted covering on the south side. The building is 1½ storeys high and has stacks at each gable end, with a single cell on each side of the staircase. The cottage has a two-window range, including a four-paned light over a two-light casement with two panes in each light to the left, and a two-light ground floor casement with a centre-hinged design and two panes per light to the right of a small single light window with four panes at eaves level. There is a 20th-century continuous single-storey extension on the north side, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof. An inserted entry is located at the right gable end, featuring a gabled slate roof. Inside, the roughly-hewn roof trusses remain intact, and there is a chamfered and stopped lintel above the fireplace.
