Description
The bakery and detached kitchen, located approximately 2 meters north-west of Northe Morte Farmhouse, likely dates from the late 17th century. It is constructed from Morte slatestone with some cob and features a hipped scantling decreasing slate roof. The building has a large axial stack with slated weathering, which has been heightened in brick, and a smaller stack for the copper at the lower end.
The structure has a rectangular plan with an outshut at the rear, which has partly corrugated and partly Roman tiled roofs, along with a slated lean-to roof at the lower end. It is a single-storey building, partly lofted at the upper end. The front has a ledged plank door with a two-light window to the left, which is patched with leaded panes. There is a blocked window opening at the upper end.
Inside, there is a large hearth with two ovens; the rear oven is larger and brick-lined, while the smaller cloam oven to the left has a rounded projection enclosed in the rear outshut. The slate flag floor remains intact. The interior features three smoke-blackened trusses with slightly curved principals and two tiers of purlins, all of which are entirely smoke-blackened. The building is unrestored.
