Description
Shaplands is a mid-19th century house located on the north side of Chulmleigh New Street. The building is constructed of stucco or stone rubble and features a slate roof with bracketed eaves and gable ends. There are brick stacks on the left gable end and at the rear. The house has a two-room plan, single room wide, with a front parlour to the left of the entrance stairhall and a kitchen at the rear. A late 19th-century outshut has been added to the rear, which is partitioned to form a dairy and scullery. The exterior is two storeys high with a two-window range, and all the sash windows have margin glazing bars. The entrance features a pilastered doorcase with an entablature, panelled reveals, and a four-panelled door, of which the upper two panels are glazed. Inside, the 19th-century joinery is largely intact, and there is an integral cupboard to the left of the parlour fireplace.
