Description

Emmett Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 16th century, with remodeling from the 17th century. The upper end was rebuilt and extended in 1923 after a fire. The building is made of colourwashed rendered rubble and cob, topped with a slate roof that features a brick ridge stack. The right end has a thatched roof with a brick stack that has a lipped cap, and there is a lateral hall stack at the front with offsets and a tapered cap, which has been heightened in brick. To the left of the hall stack, there is a projecting bread oven with a slate canopy.

The farmhouse has two storeys and a five-window range. The left side of the hall stack features 20th-century fenestration, while the right side includes a 19th-century two-light casement window with six panes per light, and above it, there is a tall 19th-century two-light window with nine panes per light. To the right, there is another two-light window with twelve panes per light. The entrance has a four-panelled door with an overlight. At the rear of the thatched portion, there is a rubble lean-to with a 19th-century two-light window above, which has two panes per light, and the roof is made of both slate and corrugated asbestos.

Inside, there is no access to the roof space, but the hall features elaborately moulded beams with large bar stops that raise the ceiling height above the plastered downstand construction. This includes a moulded scroll-stepped bressumer at the lower end, suggesting that the lower end may have originally jutted out over a former open hall.
