Description

No. 17 Castle Street is an early 19th-century house in Barnstaple. The front facade is solid and rendered, while the right side wall is clad in slate. The roof is also slated, and there are three chimneys: one rendered with a red brick top on the left side wall, and two on the right side wall. The house is double-fronted and double-depth. It is arranged over two storeys and has a five-window front. The centre doorway features flanking pilaster strips and an entablature. The panelled reveals appear to have flush panels outlined with a raised moulding, and the door itself has six panels, with the lower two panels matching those on the reveals. A patterned fanlight sits above the door. The windows are 6-paned sash windows. A dentilled eaves cornice runs along the top of the front facade, and the top mouldings have either been rebuilt or are now enclosed. The interior has not been inspected.
