Description
The round tower, located approximately 600 metres north-west of Watermouth Castle, dates from the 19th century and is likely a look-out point associated with the castle. It is constructed of partially rendered stone rubble, with an interior lined in brick. The original swept-up roof is no longer present. The tower has a circular plan and stands around 4 metres high. On the east side, there is a semi-circular arched doorway featuring rough stone voussoirs, while the north side has a rectangular window opening, also with rough stone voussoirs and a chamfered timber surround. This window, which overlooks the sea, was originally designed for three lights, but the mullions have not survived. Above the window is a slightly curved chamfered lintel. Inside, some of the timber roof supports remain, with stop-chamfered beams forming a T-shape that carries a grille, with some timber slats still in place. The tower is prominently located on the headland, providing a commanding view of Watermouth Cove.
