Description
Dart Bridge is a road bridge over the River Dart, built around 1830. It features coursed blocks of squared ironstone with lightly rusticated ashlar detailing, along with a granite string course and coping. The bridge has vertical abutments supporting a single high segmental arch, where some of the ashlar voussoirs are incised to resemble two headers for a regular appearance. The flat plain granite coping has curved weathering. The walls curve outward on each side to terminal piers that project only externally. This bridge closely resembles Lapford Bridge and Bury Bridge in Morchard Bishop, both of which have plaques commemorating their construction in 1830 by builder Roger Tyler for the Trustees of the Exeter Turnpike.
