Description
Rashleigh Mill is a late 19th-century wheat and barley mill constructed from exposed stone rubble with a slate roof, which is said to have originally been thatch. The building is a gable-ended, three-storey block with a south-facing gable front. This front features a first-floor plank door to the right, accessed by external wooden steps and a porch that now has a corrugated iron roof. There is a projecting timber loading hatch at the gable. On the right (eastern) side, there is a door to the ground floor and a 19th-century casement window with glazing bars on the first floor.
Inside, the south end of the mill is built over a now-disused leat and still houses the cast-iron water wheel with timber shutters. The ground floor contains the gearing, while the first floor features the complete mill machinery, including mill stones and a silk flour sieve. The structure displays plain carpentry details, although the roof has not been inspected.
