Description
Lovacott School Chapel, originally a Baptist chapel, was built in 1827 and has been altered and extended in the 20th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble with brick dressings and features an asbestos slate roof that is hipped at the east end and gabled at the front west end. There is a small brick stack at the gable end of the right wing. The chapel has a rectangular plan with a 19th-century wing on the front right and a 20th-century extension on the left, creating a T-shaped layout. It is a single-storey structure with two semi-circular arched windows at each end, a datestone from 1827, and a blind roundel above. The front features a gabled slate roof over a stone porch, which has a rounded brick arch leading to the doorway and a four-panelled inner door. Each side of the chapel has a single round-arched window with a 12-paned fixed light. The 19th-century wing on the right includes two cambered arched windows with 19th-century two-light casements, each having eight panes per light, flanking a blocked doorway that also has a cambered arch. The interior fittings were updated in the 20th century.
