Description
The gates and gatepiers located approximately 10 metres north of the Church of St John Baptist were likely designed in 1838 by R D Gould. The gates are made of wrought iron, while the gatepiers are constructed from stone rubble topped with ashlar caps. The gatepiers are octagonal in shape and feature moulded ashlar caps that support a decorative wrought iron structure, which includes a central lantern. The wrought iron gates have square section shafts, with quatrefoil decoration on the middle and top rail, and anthemion cresting above the headrail, complemented by ogee arches below.
