Description
No. 14 High Street is a house with a later shop, dating from the 18th century or early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. It features a slate roof, although the stacks are not visible from the outside, and has cast-iron rainwater goods. This building was part of a larger plot that extended to Church Lane. The front right corner is now occupied by No. 13, while the central right section is No. 14 High Street, which is now under separate ownership. The rear right area, which used to be a courtyard, has been filled in with a late 20th-century building.
The structure has three storeys and an eaves band, with a regular two-window range. The shop front, likely from the 20th century, includes moulded timber pilasters and plate-glass windows on either side of a central door. The first and second-floor windows have moulded architraves and cill blocks, and they are fitted with 20th-century two-pane plate-glass sashes. The interior of the front section has been gutted for the shop, while the flats above have not been inspected but are reported to be plain. This building is included for its group value.
