Description

This is an early 19th century cottage with a former chapel attached to its south-west end, now used as a store shed. The cottage is built of painted rendered stone rubble, possibly with some cob, and has a slate roof with gable ends. A brick stack sits on the left gable end. The chapel section has a more recent asbestos slate roof.

The cottage originally had a simple plan of one room, with a winder staircase in the rear left corner and a single-storey kitchen extension added to the rear. The chapel is rectangular and runs parallel to the street, with a carriageway entrance at the right end. A floor was inserted into the chapel in the 20th century.

The two-storey cottage has an attic, featuring a gabled dormer with shaped bargeboards and a 2-light casement window with 2 panes per light. The left side of the cottage has two 3-light casement windows with 3 panes per light on each floor, alongside a plank front door with 2 glazed upper panels. The chapel has two large semi-circular arched windows with intersecting glazing bars; the left-hand window's sill has been raised to accommodate double plank doors inserted below. Double plank doors open to the carriageway entrance on the right.

The cottage’s ground floor has been altered, with a rebuilt fireplace and mostly replaced ceiling joists. The winder staircase and 19th century joinery remain on the upper and attic floors. It is thought that the chapel originally had a gallery over the carriage entrance at its west end.
