Description
The footstone located approximately 3 metres north of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary is undated but likely dates from the early 19th century. It is made of slate and stands upright as a broad square-headed slab, approximately 0.4 metres high. The stone is inscribed with a poem in neat Roman serif upper and lower case letters, suggesting that it marks a child's grave. The top corners of the footstone are decorated with sunburst motifs, and there is a simple pattern of drawn-out scrolls over the poem. It appears to no longer be associated with a headstone.
