Description
Polford Cottages is a pair of cottages, likely built in the late 18th to early 19th century. They are constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with cob stacks topped by 19th-century brick and a thatched roof. The cottages are arranged symmetrically around a central cob crosswall, featuring small unheated inner rooms with rear doors leading to outshots, and outer rooms that have end stacks. The buildings are two storeys high and face east, with a string course running along the front. The overall facade has six windows, with two windows for each cottage, a central door, and a recessed blind window above. Small thatch eyebrows are present over the windows and panels. The windows are 19th-century two-light casements, with two panes on the left and six panes on the right, while the top left window has both casements as six-pane. The interior features plain carpentry, and both cottages remain unrestored.
