Description

A detached cottage dating from the 17th century, with later alterations. It is built of stone with some cob, plastered and covered by a thatched roof on the gabled ends. Originally, it was likely a two-room, cross passage plan, with the addition of a 19th-century cross wing on the right. The front of the cottage has three windows, all 20th-century two-light casements, mostly unbarred. A porch with a catslide thatched roof is to the left of the centre, and a glazed double door within the wing leads into a 20th-century lean-to conservatory. A stack is located on the left-hand side of the cottage, and another is positioned at the junction of the main range and wing, likely replacing an earlier end stack; both stacks have brick shafts. The right-hand elevation features a two-light casement window on each floor. The rear of the cottage has a lean-to under an asbestos slate roof. Inside the left-hand room, there is an axial beam with run-out stops. The fireplace at the end of the room has an unchamfered jamb and lintel. The roof of the main range contains three trusses, crossed and side-pegged at the apex, and lapped purlins; the roof of the wing is entirely 19th century.
