Description
This cowshed, located approximately 10 metres south of Partridge Farmhouse, began as a small house built in the late 16th to early 17th century and was later converted into a cowshed in the late 17th or early 18th century. The building is constructed of plastered cob with rubble footings and has a corrugated iron roof. Originally a 3-room-and-through-passage house with an inner room at the east end, the former hall, passage, and service room have been converted into a byre. There is no visible evidence of fireplaces. The front of the building retains a flat arched doorframe dating to the late 16th or early 17th century, originally a doorway for the passage, located to the right of the centre. A secondary door provides access to the former inner room, with a hayloft loading hatch positioned above it. A small, unglazed window is set into the first floor, under the eaves. The roof is gable-ended on the left and hipped on the right. Inside the former inner room, a small 2-light oak-framed window with a chamfered mullion remains in the left end wall, dating to the 17th century. The interior features a cob cross wall separating the former hall and inner room, alongside chamfered and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops over the hall and service room. The roof structure was replaced around 1930.
