Description

This chest tomb, located about 2 metres west of the south aisle of the Church of St Matthew, dates from around 1836. It is made of limestone and features plain sides with a soffit-chamfered flat lid. The lid has an inscription dedicated to Thomas Melhuish, who died in 1836, and his brother John, who died in 1839, both of Barnshill. Each long end of the tomb has a less expertly inscribed epithet.
