Description
A K6 telephone kiosk, designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of King George V. It was made by various contractors. The kiosk is square in plan with a domed roof and is constructed of cast iron. The upper structure has a crown applied in relief above a glazed panel bearing the word "TELEPHONE" on each side. The windows and door are margin glazed. The kiosk is painted red. This iconic example of industrial design demonstrates Giles Gilbert Scott's adaptation of Neoclassical forms for a modern technological function. It is a particularly good example of the type and possesses Group Value with the Grade II listed No. 1 and No. 2 Pitt Court, a Victorian post box, and two other nearby Grade II listed buildings.
