Description

Hawkridge Bridge is a road bridge over the River Taw, built in the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed from local mudstone rubble, featuring squared but not ashlar voussoirs. The bridge has a small humpback shape and comprises a single segmental arch with voussoirs. Originally, the bridge did not have a parapet, but in the 20th century, timber railings were added to serve this purpose. Small humpback bridges without parapets are both uncommon and attractive.
