Description

Lower Woodhouse is an early to mid-19th century cottage located on Haves Hill, near Thelbridge. The building is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with a rubble stack featuring a 19th-century brick chimney shaft and a thatched roof. Originally a 2-room plan cottage facing south, it has an end stack serving the right (east) room. A 20th-century slate-roofed outshot is located on the left (west) end. The architectural style is Gothick cottage ornée. The two-storey front has a balanced, though slightly asymmetrical, two-window arrangement of original 2-centred arch-headed casements with pointed, almost triangular-headed lights. Later glazing bars have been added to most windows, but some leaded glass remains on the first floor. A nearly central 2-centred arch-headed plank door is protected by a 20th-century gabled and weatherboarded porch. The roof has a gable end to the right and a half-hipped end to the left. The rear and the right end are blind. The interior has not been inspected.
