Description
The stables and linhays, located approximately 20 meters west of Brushford Barton, date from the early 19th century. The building is partly plastered and partly features exposed cob on rubble footings, topped with a slate roof. It is L-shaped, situated around the west side and north-western corner of the farmyard, facing into it.
At the left (south) end of the western side are the stables and a tack room. The stables have two doors with a small unglazed window between them. The tack room door at the left end is now blocked and has been replaced by a new door and a two-light window, which still contains some leaded diamond panes. The roof is high and hipped at the end.
The remainder of the west side features an 11-bay linhay that extends along the north side, alongside a 9-bay linhay. Both linhays are of Alcocks Type T1, supported by full-height timber posts, with haylofts mostly protected by horizontal planks. The roofs are constructed with A-frame trusses featuring pegged and bolted lap-jointed collars. The building is currently in a dilapidated state of repair.
