Description
The gates to Chainbridge are timber gates located across the lane leading to Chainbridge Lodge and the Chain Bridge over the River Exe. They were likely built in the late 19th century and feature gate posts and gates with iron braces. The central gate is designed for carts or carriages and is flanked by pedestrian gates that have attractive details that complement the lodge and bridge. The timber gates hang from sturdy posts and include semi-circular iron braces positioned above and below the middle rail, along with timber verticals topped with bobbin-turned finials. To the left, there is a short section of fencing that consists of quarter circle braces with timber palings arranged in a fan shape. These gates have group value with the Chain Bridge and Chain Lodge.
