Description

Chain Bridge is a bridge that carries a private road to Stuckeridge House across the River Exe. It was probably built in the early 19th century. The bridge features an iron structure designed to resemble a suspension bridge, with chains anchored to stone piers. The piers have a rectangular section and are battered with sunk mouldings. Chains extend across the river from the piers and are secured to the ground. Slender vertical iron columns are attached to the chains and support the bridge girders, which are also fixed to the piers. The parapets consist of cross-braced girders.
