Description
There are two adjacent chest tombs located approximately 5 metres east of the Church of St Michael in Poughill. One tomb dates from around 1807 and is in memory of Robert Thomas, who died in that year. It features plain brick sides and an inscribed flat lid made of Portland stone. This tomb is enclosed by cast iron spear railings set on volcanic trap coping, with bulbous corner posts topped with vase finials. The second tomb, dating from around 1893, commemorates Mary Thomas, who died in that year. This tomb is also made of Portland stone and has a rectangular plan on a moulded base, with a soffit-moulded lid and a low pitched top. It has plain sides and is inscribed on the south side.
