Description

This is a row of five cottages at 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 Fore Street, Bradninch. The cottages were rebuilt after a fire in 1832. They are constructed of cob with a stone plinth and have slate roofs. The cottages share axial chimney stacks, all with brick shafts. Two of these stacks are particularly large and containing brickwork that appears to date from before 1830, likely representing the remaining elements from before the fire. Upper windows are 19th-century two-light casements with six panes per light, with the exception of number 3. An original planked door remains at number 7, and ground-floor casement windows from the 19th century are found at numbers 7 and 11. The interior of number 7 revealed no evidence of pre-19th-century features. A carriage entrance is located adjacent to number 11.
