Description

The barns located approximately 10 meters north-east of Downes Home Farmhouse are a double barn structure built around 1850-1860. They are constructed partly of brick and partly of plaster cob on rubble footings, topped with a slate roof. The two barns are arranged end to end under a continuous roof facing south-west.

The left barn, which is cob walled, features a central brick doorway that is dated 1916, marked by a plaque above it, and is built inside an earlier large doorway. To the left of this doorway, there is an unglazed two-light window with iron bars. The right barn is made of brick and has a central door flanked by two-light windows, along with a single first-floor window above the right window. There is also a door at the right end leading into a small office. All brick openings have segmental arches above them.

Both barns have a five-bay roof supported by king post trusses. The hipped roof of the right barn has deep eaves supported by shaped brackets that match those of Downes Home Farmhouse, with the front of the farmhouse aligning with the end of the barn. The barns are included for their group value.
